This is the situation: You like what you see in the BEO and want to get involved. Let’s talk about the opportunity to apply for a seat at the BEO table in the November 2026 Board of Directors election.
WHO WE ARE
The BEO is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that keeps the Basque conversation alive across the U.S. diaspora. We’re fully remote, we meet once a month, and we care more about the range of ideas at the table than where everyone happens to be sitting.
We don’t just talk about ideas — we build them. This is a hard-working, highly active Board: the film series, the scholarship program, the grants, the Little Free Library, and everything in between exists because someone on this Board made it happen. This isn’t a resume line. It’s a room full of people who show up, disagree well, and get things done. If that sounds like you, we invite you to apply.
THE COMMITMENT
Serving on the Board is a real commitment, and we want you to go in with eyes open:
- We meet once a month, on the first Thursday, and we’re looking for people ready to stick with it for the full term.
- Each Board member serves on at least one committee and is hands-on with one of our active programs — that’s where the real work (and fun) happens.
- We stay in touch between meetings, so being reachable and comfortable with tools like Zoom, Google Drive, emailing, and texting helps.
- You don’t need to live in the Bay Area. What matters most is a timezone that lets you join us.
- If you’re elected, you’ll sign a standard conflict-of-interest disclosure — just like everyone else on our board.
- The work is unpaid. People stay because they want to be here, and that’s the kind of energy we’re hoping to find.
